It’s nice to see Lal play a slightly unusual character, not the confident dad that he often portrays and Shanthi Krishna is simply wonderful in her comeback.Debutant director Althaf Salim’s Njandukalude Naattil Oridavela is an entertainer that is packed with humour, though it is handles a serious theme.Ĭhacko (Lal) and his wife Sheela (Shanthi Krishna) are happily settled in Kerala, after their stint in Kuwait. Quite a few of the actors from the Premam team including Siju Wilson, Krishna Shankar, Sharafudheen are seen over here and all of them are well utilised.
Ahaana Krishna and Srinda Arhaan play Kurien’s sisters and get adequate scope while Dileesh Pothan and Saiju Kurup are effective. The romance element in the film is visible in a small but cute manner, Aishwarya Lekshmi as Rachel does well. It’s the kind of film that seems to have a distinct flow of its own, a factor that definitely works in favour of the film. In fact it’s very encouraging to see Nivin the producer not wanting to hog all the limelight and in fact play second fiddle of sorts to Shanthi Krishna especially in the first half. For those who go in probably expecting an out and out Nivin Pauly show here’s a word of caution, yes Nivin does play the hero here but then it’s not a film that revolves around him as such. A slice of life tale that does not pretend to be a game changer or anything spectacular, Althaf has tried to keep the expectations of the family audience in mind, an endeavour in which he has more or less succeeded. Right from the very beginning Althaf Salim seems to have been very clear in terms of what he has set out to achieve.Īlthaf Salim’s writing perhaps has a minimalist approach of sorts, there is nothing grand in terms of the situations or the dialogues, in fact one can easily relate to what you get to watch in the film. What is it that causes Sheela to worry and how does this revelation go on to impact the whole family is what we get to see as the tale unfolds. Chacko ( Lal) and the rest of the family members are perplexed and Kurien goes on to return back.

The Chackos are a well settled family in Kochi, everyone there seems to be comfortable in their own daily routine of sorts. As an actor Althaf was noticed in films like Premam and Sakhavu, and now his equation with fellow actor Nivin Pauly seems to have gone on to the next level as seen as Nivin is not just featuring in his film but has also produced it as well. But here’s where Althaf Salim definitely seems to have wanted to break the mould as seen in case of his Onam release, Njandukalude Nattil Oridavela. How often do we come across movies, especially family entertainers where death is not presented or talked about in a gloomy fashion but rather shown casually and with a certain sense of spirited understanding? Not too often I am sure as generally the image that one would conjure of would be heavy emotional scenes to convey such a situation.
